Mornings Matter

Davide Maccari

“I was taking so many supplements every morning, and now I just take this one scoop. I only add a few more on top, but otherwise I have my daily micronutrients here. It honestly saves me time and the hassle of going out to buy everything separately.”

“You need a reason to wake up in the morning. For me, training is that reason. It gives me direction.”

Davide Maccari, Co-founder of 444, ALTA and AREA LUCE

For Davide, health isn’t about following trends or chasing the next big thing. As co-founder of 444, his work is rooted in questioning the chaos of the wellness industry and creating a system that honors the whole human - body, mind, and energy. His mornings reflect that same vision: simple, intentional, and built on a foundation of purpose.

For him, mornings aren’t just about routine, they’re about aligning with what matters most. The balance between pushing boundaries and finding stillness. Between data-driven structure and soulful presence. Between becoming stronger, and staying grounded in who he already is.

Most days begin at 4:30 a.m. The first 20-30 minutes are sacred; a quiet space where he’s fully with himself before the demands of the day. Supplements, coffee, and meditation open his morning, followed by a quick check of his WHOOP data. For Davide, numbers aren’t about obsession but about feedback: Am I moving in the right direction? aioss has become part of this ritual. One scoop that simplifies what used to be a complicated routine.

“A lot of people think training or challenges are an escape. For me, it’s about values, stepping back, asking what really matters, and finding balance between ambition and presence.”

“I love mornings. They set the tone for everything. If you start with discipline, the rest of the day flows.”

From there, he spends an hour working, then shifts into training. His weekly rhythm is diverse, but currently it’s designed to prepare him for running the 240km coast to coast in Italy, chasing the world record, to become the fastest men to cross the country on foot: four runs, three strength sessions, and cycling or stairmaster for cardio. The physical challenge isn’t just about performance. It’s about purpose.

After training, he embraces recovery rituals: red light therapy, a cold shower, and a skincare routine as structured as his workouts - toner, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, moisturizer, and sunscreen. “Taking care of my skin is the same as taking care of my body. It’s all connected.”

Breakfast is clean and consistent: overnight oats with vegan protein, blueberries, and almond butter. On lighter training days, he often fasts. Every choice has a reason - not from rigidity, but from understanding how his body responds.

Beyond Routine: Building a Foundation

For Davide, the science behind his mornings matters. Each step, from meditation to cold showers, is designed to boost dopamine, sharpen focus, and create sustainable energy. “When you start the day in this way, you’re not just productive, you feel good. And feeling good is what makes everything else possible.”

But there’s also space for reflection. Physical challenges like ultras push him beyond his comfort zone, yet he knows it’s not only about striving. It’s also about pausing. “A lot of people think training or challenges are an escape. For me, it’s about values, stepping back, asking what really matters, and finding balance between ambition and presence.”

Three Things We Can Take Away from Davide

Davide’s mornings aren’t about perfection; they’re about discipline with meaning. His approach reminds us that:

  1. Purpose gives structure. A reason to wake up creates momentum for everything else.
  2. Discipline builds freedom. Small, consistent rituals form the foundation for energy, clarity, and growth.
  3. Balance matters as much as progress. True health isn’t just about pushing forward, it’s about knowing when to pause.

For Davide, mornings are the anchor point. A daily practice of showing up, challenging himself, and staying true to what matters most.
